On Friday 18th October, the Belfry Hotel, Nottingham provided a spectacular backdrop for the finals of the Great East Midlands Care Awards, where Lincolnshire CEO, Trixie Bennett received The Care Innovator Award.
This award was to recognise the person who has shown exceptional entrepreneurial skills in identifying, developing, implementing and establishing a new service that demonstrates benefits for those cared for.
Trixie is often commended as being ‘trail blazing’ in the care industry. Via her charity Adults Supporting Adults, she has launched several exceptional projects to support vulnerable adults. Each project, a result of National pressures & an acute understanding of this community. Each response, commercially speedy & innovative in its implementation…
One example sited is a service called Spriteleys.
Community Care For The Elderly was closed down in response to government cuts. ASA worked with the council to reform the service to ensure older people in the 4 Lincolnshire areas were not left to be isolated. There are now several Lincolnshire clubs operating 3 times per week. Spriteleys was an example of a quick response to the new trend of Government cuts.
ASA have been recognised by care bodies, MPs & celebrities such as Esther Rantzen – for their innovative response to Localisation.
One such response involved forming a Consortia to provide a threaded patchwork of quality niche services. The PACT project is a great example of this.
PACT is about getting adults home from Hospital as quickly as is safely possible. This service, was set up in response to National bed-blocking issues effecting the NHS and individuals. According to estimates, each night lost to bed blocking costs the NHS about £350. That’s £500,000 savings in just the one hospital already, in less than one year.
Words from the Great East Midlands Care Awards
What Trixie and her team have done is amazing, their innovation alone is worthy of nationalisation. The judges unanimously chose Adults Supporting Adults as the winner of this category as Trixie’s passion and commitment shone through.
These awards recognise and pay tribute to the efforts and dedication of all those who work tirelessly to ensure that so many people are able to live independent lives in their own home. They are the perfect showcase to reflect on best practice in the social care sector. A sector where people truly dedicate themselves to their work and take pride in their achievements.
Winners from the awards will be invited to attend the national finals for either the home care or care home sector which will take place in April and June 2014 at a prestigious venue in London.
Wish Trixie and her team luck!
