Government changes to the provision of social care are a hot topic in the National news, namely council services moving to the private sector under the new Health & Social Care and Localisation Bills.
There are however many unknowns as to how this translates locally (across Lincolnshire) and to clients themselves. As many of you will be aware Lincolnshire has one of the highest proportion of elderly and the highest projection for dementia amongst all other Counties.
This positive event revealing exactly how gaps in provision and public awareness are being met, and can continue to be successfully addressed by the third sector. The event has attracted both leading media and high profile speakers.
The flow of the morning is planned as follows
Bigger picture: : Nick Boles MPgives us a download of the National government agenda, the Localism Bill, The Health & Social Care Bill & the resulting impact on local authorities (how they commission and deliver services). Following that Nick will give us a snapshot of where we are now locally (with the outsourcing date approaching fast) and how this creates opportunity for development and creativity within social care provision.
National Schemes: TV star Esther Rantzen has announced the launch of a new phone line for older people ‘The Silver Line’. The telephone befriending service aims to tackle loneliness and isolation amongst older people. Esther, (working in partnership with the Centre for Social Justice, the Campaign to End Loneliness and the Department of Health), has progressed the idea of Silver Line. Esther will talk to us about these National Developments and how that synchronises with what ASA are achieving on a micro / local level.
The local translation: Ursula Lidbetter MBEwill give us a brief talk on her background, local achievements and community agendas. Chief Executive of the Lincolnshire Co-operative, a consumer-owned business and one of the largest employers in the county. She is also chair of the East Midlands leadership team.
