Julie Cady has been running the at home day resource at her home since it began in the year 2000. Over the last 13 years Julie has had over 20 different clients attend the resource. At one time Julie held 3 sessions a week and had 8 people attending the service. At the moment Julie has two clients Daphne Osborn and Jennifer Mitchell. Daphne has been attending the resource since May 2012 and Jennifer has recently started.
Daphne commented that she really enjoys coming to see Julie and is so pleased that Jennifer has now joined the group as she has someone else to chat to. Upon arrival clients are greeted at the door and then offered a drink and biscuits, they chat and play games such as scrabble, connect 4, dominoes and memory games. Julie then prepares a hot cooked meal and desert for them and they sit together at the table to enjoy their lunch. Daphne likes to read her newspaper and do the crossword. Jennifer says that she is looking forward to attending the resource on a regular basis and having some social contact and friendship.
This resource provides valuable social interaction for persons with dementia or anyone feeling socially isolated. The resource is small with only 3 clients per session which is less intimidating than larger groups and because it is held in a providers home the environment is relaxing and familiar.
