Who are we?
Adults Supporting Adults (ASA) are a CQC Compliant and Supporting People 5A Rated countywide not-for-profit charity. As a Shared Lives provider we offer a variety of different resources for people over the age of 18 who require support and wish to remain or become a part of their chosen community.
Mission Statement
Valuing individuals by creating choice to enrich peoples’ lives.
Philosophy Statement
We believe that everyone should have the chance to live their life as they would like; to choose what happens, where it happens and with whom.
What Resources can we offer?
ASA offers a number of flexible and unique resources that are appropriate to you and your individual needs.
- Extended Stay – (Shared Lives Arrangement) this resource provides the opportunity to learn the skills necessary for independence whilst living within the support and security of one of our families. The family supports the client in a variety of ways responding to each person’s individual needs. Some examples of which are: home skills, such as cooking and managing finances, social and emotional support, making friends and developing links in the community, accessing local services and support into employment.
“I like living with Olivia and Steve, they are nice and pleasant. The bedroom is very nice and big for my things. I like going to college three days a week.”
- Respite – is a flexible personalised service offering the client and their family/carer a supportive break from each other. Respite can provide the client with anything from 1 up to 28 consecutive nights stay with a family. This is a tailor made service which provides the client with the experience of living with another family, new social and leisure opportunities and can be used as a planned progression into extended stay. We also offer over night respite in the client’s own home should the person find it difficult adapting to a change in routine or different environment. We can also support you to go on holiday should you so wish. This still enables the client and family/carer to have a practical break from each other.
“I have a good time and the people are nice and easy to get on with. I went to a show and walked along the sea front. I never get bored of Skegness where I go.”
- Daytime Provision – is a bespoke service designed to suit you and your individual needs. Specially matched support is provided on a 1:1 basis where a positive and trusting relationship develops between the provider and client. The service can be activity or community led, for example, supporting with domestic skills such as shopping, cooking and managing personal finances, making friends in the community, attending adult education classes, supporting the person back to work, or just going down the local pub to catch up with everyone.
“Sometimes I decide to go tenpin bowling or the cinema. I enjoy getting day time provision because it gets me out and I enjoy socializing with other people.”
- At Home Day Resource – is a day service based in the provider’s own home for people who have dementia or anyone else who would benefit from the uniqueness of this small group based activity for up to 3 people. The service can include: maintenance of people’s interests, social interaction and mental stimulation, whilst providing a break for the family/carer and helping preserve links with the community.
“The service has been invaluable, in both supporting my husband with a day service and giving me respite from my caring role.”
- Sit2Gether – (Sitting Service) is a specific resource provided by ASA trained staff that enables the family to have a short break during the day. You can have peace of mind, knowing that your loved one is being supported safely in their own home. The provider will sit with the client and undertake activities or be just there to ensure that everything is okay. The provider will offer companionship and some aspects of practical and personal support if required.
- Lifestyle Brokerage – is designed to support those clients who have recently received a Personal Budget from Adult Social Care which gives you the freedom to purchase your own resources. We can empower you to choose how you live your life without the worry of having to: employ people, find services, manage a budget and do it alone. Lifestyle Brokerage are here to talk over your decisions and will be there for as long as you want.
- Shop2Gether – is a resource that utilises the support from volunteers in the local community. In effect you will have your own personal shopper, who will pick you up at home, help you around the store, have a chat with you over a coffee and cake, then return you home and help put the shopping away. The resource is free of charge other than the cost of any journeys, car parking and any other out of pocket expenses.
- Spriteleys – is a new resource that currently provides day services four times a week to older people in the Grantham area. You will be picked up from home by mini-bus and then dropped off and escorted to your front door again at the end of the day. The service brings together people from within their communities who may otherwise be socially isolated. The friendly sessions includes having lunch and participating in various activities chosen by the group.
“If it wasn’t for this voluntary service, life would come to a stand still for us”.
Am I eligible for support?
We support all people over the age of 18. You may have a learning or physical disability, a sensory impairment, be an older person or someone with dementia or lived experience of mental health. In fact we are willing to offer our resources to anyone that may require the support to maintain their independence.
How much does it cost?
Depending on your eligibility, resources maybe free. However, this is reliant on you first having your support needs assessed by a practitioner from Adult Social Care. You will need to contact your local Community Services Directorate office for advice on eligibility and how that is determined. If you are successful in your assessment, you may be given a Personal Budget to purchase the resources yourself, or opt for a Managed Budget, which is paid directly to the service provider. However, if you are not eligible for financial support, then you can still purchase any of our resources on a private basis. For more information on Adult Social Care services, you can send an email to: customer_services@lincolnshire.gov.uk or telephone Lincolnshire County Council on 01522 782155.
Who are ASA providers and Volunteers?
ASA providers and volunteers are people like you and me from a variety of different backgrounds and lifestyles, but they all share the same values and have an interest in supporting people. As an organisation ASA recruits and supports providers and volunteers across all of our resources by:
- Carefully assessing their suitability.
- Arranging interviews with a client led Co-worker group.
- Making Enhanced CRB and other relevant checks.
- Taking up personal references.
- Providing regular training on a variety of topics such as adult abuse and equality and awareness.
- Keeping in regular contact by telephone, newsletters and monthly supervision.
You may also be interested in joining one of our resources and becoming part of the Adults Supporting Adults team. Appropriate training is provided and generous remuneration will be paid.
