On Friday afternoon, 8th April 2016, 99 year old Annie Welby was invited to the Mayor of Grantham’s Parlour to be presented with a ‘Point of Light’ Award, signed by the Prime Minister himself, the Rt Hon David Cameron.
Annie who has been a volunteer with the Spriteleys Day Group for over 25 years in Swinstead and later Great Ponton was very humbled to be receiving the award from Mayor, Jacky Smith. Annie states that she was only doing what anybody else would do in her position, but that she had really enjoyed her time volunteering with the group, where she has made many many friends over the years.
Chief Executive of Adults Supporting Adults, Trixie Bennett, who arranged the presentation, felt it was ‘only right for Annie to be recognised for her efforts’, noting the Prime Minister was truly accurate in his citation, when he said that Annie was ‘an inspiration to us all.’
