Adults Supporting Adults (ASA) is a not for profit organisation supporting people across the whole of Lincolnshire. ASA promote choice and independence enabling people to lead lifestyles of their choice. ASA emphasises social inclusion and opportunities for all, as an organisation we support people to develop their own unique support plans to meet their needs and aspirations in life.
Emma had always wanted to work or volunteer in the community. With the help of her ASA support worker Emma went along to the Sleaford Volunteer Centre to see what opportunities where available. They asked Emma about her interests and hobbies and Emma told them she had always loved horses and completed a horse care course through Lincoln Collage some time ago.
The Volunteer Centre recommended Foxdale Equine Assisted Learning and suggested Emma go and have a look. After, an interview they offered Emma volunteer work one day a week. Emma has been volunteering now since October 2016. Emma gets fully involved in all aspects of looking after the horses, mucking out and leading them.
Emma has grown in confidence around the horses but also around other visitors who come along to Foxdale to ride and see the horses.
Emma said ‘I now support people with dementia who visit the centre, I love what I do. I have learnt so much, it’s important to learn how to breath with the horses. I also enjoy being part of a team. I would not be able to do this without the support of my Day Time Provider, they offer me so much support and guidance’
