Doug has been living in sheltered housing in Grantham and has a lived experience of mental health that includes Schizophrenia which was diagnosed some time ago. Doug is also diabetic and experiences anxiety.
A year ago, Doug started receiving Daytime Provision with ASA provider Gina who has over 18 year of social care experience.
Doug’s agreed outcomes were:
- To undertake the weekly food shop with the ASA Day Time Provider to build confidence and reduce anxiety and panic attacks and encourage healthy eating.
- Doug and the ASA Day Time Provider go out for a meal once a fortnight to develop Doug’s social networks within his community.
- To increase Doug’s self-esteem and confidence the ASA Day Time Provider supports and encourages Doug to maintain his home
- Doug and the ASA Day Time Provider walk to meet friends incorporating gentle exercise whilst maintaining his social networks.
The majority of Gina’s work is focused on developing independence, encouraging choice and social integration. In Doug’s words, he is delighted to have Gina with him, he feels his life is much better, he gets to do things he wouldn’t do before and he feels healthier.
When we asked what his next outcomes were, Doug said;
- “To visit my mums grave” (this is in a neighbouring town so Doug is building his confidence to achieve this)
- “To go and watch Luton Town play football!”
- To take a respite break with Adults Supporting Adults providers.
